The following terms of use apply to all users of Gareth Morgan Investments Limited Partnership's (GMILP) website, and in using the website, you agree to be bound by them. GMILP may change these terms and conditions at any time. 

The information that is provided on this site is designed to provide general information for the New Zealand investor only and does not take into account any individual particular circumstances. It is not intended to provide comprehensive or specific investment advice. Investors should not rely on the information contained in this website solely when making investment decisions and you should obtain professional advice on your individual requirements before making an investment decision. Unless otherwise stated, references to any currency are in New Zealand dollars.

Privacy Statement

This Privacy Statement applies to all websites and social media pages maintained on behalf of GMILP and its subsidiaries (‘GMI’).   If you are a GMI customer there may also be other privacy disclosures outlined in the documents associated with the product or service you have with GMI.  

GMI needs to collect information about you to make sure the services, products and information it offers or provides you are suitable for you and to comply with our legal obligations.  The Privacy Act 1993 sets out the rules we must follow in collecting, storing, using and sharing any personal information you give us.

Why we collect information (purpose)

We’ll collect information about you that we need to:

  • provide the service or product you’ve requested;
  • provide you with information about other products or services offered by GMI or its related entities that you’ve expressed an interest in or that we think you might be interested in;
  • comply with our legal obligations in relation to providing financial products or services to you.

Information we collect

GMI may gather three types of information from you when you join GMI or when you use GMI’s websites and social media pages:

  1. Personal information, such as: name, mailing and/or residential address, phone number, email address, user name, date of birth, IRD number, contact preferences, activity logs specific to our secure log-in areas, when you share content from a GMI managed Facebook page etc...
  2. Technical information that identifies the computers or devices you use to access GMI websites or social media pages,  and the manner by which you use them, such as:IP address; cookie, device, browser, & operating system identifiers, location information etc...
  3. Usage information regarding your activities on GMI websites or social media pages, such as:  the date and time of visits, the pages visited, interactions with tools, calculators & advertising etc...

GMI will usually gather information from you directly, but sometimes we may collect information about you from other people when it is necessary to provide a particular product or service you request or for us to comply with our obligations. At any time, you can ask to see what personal information we hold about you, and have us correct it if it’s wrong. While we will take reasonable steps to make sure the information we have about you is accurate before we use or share it, it’s your responsibility to let us know if anything changes and we need to update our records (e.g. your name, address, phone number).  

Keeping your personal information

We may store your information in either physical (documentary) or electronic form, and we may contract a third party or related entity to store it. We take security of your information seriously and we take care to protect it from unauthorised disclosure, loss or misuse.

Where you have provided confidential information in an online form on a GMI website or social media page, we will use encryption to ensure that the information you send to us across the Internet is secure.

As part of our online application process, we invite you to provide additional information, namely your email address, and marketing email preferences. Providing this information is optional for you, and you can change or remove these details at any time via your member log-in area.

All stored customer information is protected from unauthorised access through the use of secure passwords, user log-in and other security procedures

Under the Privacy Act 1993, we may only retain your personal information for as long as it may be lawfully used.

Using your personal information (directly connected with purpose)

We can only use the personal information we’ve collected about you for the purpose for which it was collected, or a directly connected purpose. Primarily, we collect your personal information to enable us to provide and administer the products and services you request or respond to an enquiry you’ve made.  Connected to that purpose is providing you with information about other products and services (offered by us or related entities) you might be interested in and complying with laws that govern the provision of financial services (domestic or international).  For example, GMI might collect information about you for the purpose of an investment review and we may use the contact information you’ve provided to call or email you about a product or service we think you might be interested in. If you are a U.S. Citizen, we may also have to provide information to a government agency in relation to your tax status to comply with our legal obligations.

More detailed information about purpose of collecting and using of personal information may be included in the terms and conditions of any product or service you sign up for, or on the particular GMI website or social media page you visit.

Sharing your information

We’ll share your information with other people/entities:

  • to assist us to provide products, services and information to you;
  • when you’ve authorised us to provide the information to that person/entity;
  • when it will be used in a way that can’t identify you;
  • for statistical or research purposes when it won’t be published in a way that could identify you;
  • where required to by law; and
  • in other limited circumstances permitted by the Privacy Act 1993.

This could include our related entities, market research companies, governmental agencies, credit reporting agencies, any insurers or guarantors.  When we share your information (other than as required by law) we’ll make sure the people we may share your information with are aware they must keep that information secure and only use it for the purpose for which we’ve shared it.

Email address

If you provide us with your email address, we or any of our related entities may contact you using electronic communications (eg. email or via the secure log-in areas) in relation to the enquiry you have made. We may also provide you with information about additional products or services offered by us or any of our related entities that we think you may be interested in.  

You may elect to not receive electronic communications at any time.


Cookies are small pieces of information which can be stored on your hard drive (persistent cookies) or in memory (session cookies). The cookies we send to your PC cannot read your hard drive or command your computer to perform any action.

We use two types of cookies:

  • Persistent cookies - used to identify and provide personalised features such as choosing which page you would like to make your GMI start page, to deliver ads that are relevant to you, and for tracking traffic patterns to and from GMI’s websites and social media pages .
  • Session cookies - used as an integral part of the identification process for our secure log-in areas. This is for security purposes to determine that you are who you say you are and to provide you with your confidential member account information when you log in. No personal information is kept in the cookie and the cookie is not written to your hard drive. When you log out of our secure log-in areas the cookie is no longer valid and is discarded when you close your browser.

Using cookies to set your personalisation preferences

You can prevent new cookies from being installed and delete existing cookies. The exact procedure depends on which browser you are using. For more information on how to remove cookies check your internet browser.

Google Analytics

GMI uses Google Analytics website measurement software to help measure traffic patterns to, from, and within our public websites and our secure sites. The services are used to anonymously aggregate website statistics, such as number of page views, the number of unique visitors, time spent on our websites, when visitors browse, and common entry and exit points into and from our websites. On occasion, random short surveys may also be used to collect further information about our users - participation in these surveys will be entirely voluntary.

All information is aggregated by Google Analytics and provided to us to help us better understand usage of our websites - no individual visitors are identified. Google Analytics has been adopted as an accepted interactive measurement standard amongst major Internet sites.

How does Google Analytics work?

All our website pages are coded with a small piece of Google Analytics code that is transparent to you when you read that page. These pieces of code store cookies in your browser (if you have cookies enabled) which contain unique identifiers to allow us to track the number of unique visitors to our websites. This information is collected and aggregated by Google Analytics and in no way can you be identified personally and no personal information is stored about you.


The information, images, screens, web pages and logos and brands on this site are copyrighted and may not be reproduced in any form (including digital copies) without the express written permission of GMILP.

You may not use or permit use of any part of this site for any purpose other than that intended (which is the provision to you of fund information, and information about GMILP and its related companies).


Any information you provide us is stored securely and is to ensure quality service from GMILP, and to enable GMILP and its related companies to offer you further services. Information held about you will not be disclosed outside of the GMILP group of companies without your consent. You can access any personal information held by GMILP about you, and correct any information at any time.
