Meet the Workers - Senior Management
Overseeing the business
Captain Morgan
Gareth Morgan is an economist, investment manager, philanthropist, motorcycle adventurer, and public commentator. He is also author of a series of books that scrutinise the spending of public money on various public services, including health, tax and welfare, and sustainability issues like fishing and climate change. Gareth was a member of the Capital Markets Development Taskforce 2008 – 2009 and the Tax Working Group in 2009.
As well as his governance role, Gareth is an active member of the Investment Strategy Team at GMI, focussed on questioning and testing strategy ideas, and scrutinising changes proposed to the portfolios and investment strategy. As a significant investor at GMI himself, he maintains a very close relationship with the Investment Strategy Team and process.
Solid, dependable Andrew
As founding partner, director and guide, Andrew ensures neither the swings of investment cycles nor the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune distract the team from the disciplines of enduring portfolio management.
Andrew has worked as a professional economist for the past thirty years, firstly for the National Farmers' Union of England and Wales in London, and for Business and Economic Research Limited, Wellington. In 1983 Andrew joined Gareth Morgan in founding Infometrics Limited, an economic forecasting and consulting business.
Andrew is a director of Infometrics Limited as well as being a director of GMI and Gareth Morgan KiwiSaver Limited. In 2006 Andrew took full-time responsibility for setting up the Gareth Morgan KiwiSaver Scheme and supporting business arrangements, and remains involved in the day-to-day development of Gareth Morgan KiwiSaver Limited. Andrew takes a direct interest in the evolution of the KiwiSaver regime from both a business perspective as well as an economic policy perspective.
Cathy takes the lead
From a village in Greece to the land of fleece. Cathy moved to NZ when she was just 7 where she quickly picked up English and started on the path to becoming a chartered accountant. Cathy’s career has been focussed in the financial sector, and she recently worked at the IRD, leading the KiwiSaver implementation team. She comes to GMI with all the knowledge and experience she needs to take the reins as GMI’s Chief Executive.
Rob- on a slippery slope or in control?
You may well ask this when it comes to Rob. His role of ensuring we all are happy campers and fulfilling our potential while ensuring GMI clients get state-of-the-art portfolio management service is unenviable. But then his prowess on the slopes is too.
Steve - Karate and KiwiSaver master
It could be the top of the corporate ladder, the top of a mountain, or a top note -- Steve will be reaching them all. As well as being a general manager at GMI, he is an avid trail runner and was once in the National Youth Choir. Steve has got the power- literally. He has worked in the energy sectors and in electro-technology development, and to top it off he has a black belt in karate. Previously at Kiwibank, Steve came over to GMI to manage the sales, marketing, and client management teams.
Dave the developer
Surf's flat so back to work. In charge of the programming backbone of our business, Dave is responsible for maintenance and development of the suite of software that both keeps investors up-to-date and enables the administrators to effect timely adjustments to portfolios.
