Meet the Workers - Marketing and Communications
Champions of the GMI brand and values
Karena - Cheese roll champion
With a degree in finance and several years in the superannuation industry before she joined GMI, Karena is a pro at lining up the best experience for our customers. She’s also a whiz at netball, a trusty regular on the GMI indoor football team, and brave enough to cycle to and from work most days. She grew up in the deep south and still supports the Stags, makes the world-record-breaking cheese rolls, and rolls her Rs like a champion.
Bekki brings her 'A' game
Bekki is our marketing manager, and brings great industry experience to the team. She has been an account manager in the banking, insurance and communication industries, done her time in the agency world, and studied design—so she’s got marketing and advertising covered from all angles. She also studied PE at Otago University. While PE doesn’t feature in her day job, she is a keen rugby player, which means she is tough, strategic, and tackles everything she does head on. What you see is what you get with Bekki, and what we see we like.
Peter - Keeping us on track
Peter has never strayed too far from his roots as a student radio DJ in the 80s. Here he proudly wears the t-shirt of US indie band Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, while tramping in Kaikoura. Peter joined us after a six year stint managing content for the Sorted personal finance website. So it didn’t take him long to get into the groove at GMI. With a track record in both the communications and web worlds he brings a unique mix of skills and experience to his role. Just don’t call him a spin doctor.
Eliot serves it with a smile
Eliot doubles as both our digital marketing guru and in-house comedian. He serves up analysis on social media, lobs around reports on click rates and aces questions on Twitter. That is no backhanded compliment, he is so busy he must have four-hands. He brings with him a degree in Marketing, International Business and Media Studies, and a secret desire to be a National Geographic photographer.
Clinton under control
From qualifying as an engineer to running a dairy farm Clint has now chosen to settle in the greener pastures of the finance industry. Previously a member of the Ops and Strategy teams, Clint has now become a bit of a trouble shooter within the marketing team evaluating new ideas, solutions and always challenging how we can do things better. Approaching everything at pace, Clint is keen on team sports and getting involved and displays great prowess on the field – pretty to watch.
Globe-trotting muso Janelle
From a high country farm in North Canterbury, Janelle decided to take her last name literally and developed a passion for all things digital, starting her path to Web Analytics wizardry with a BSc in Statistics from Otago Uni. Having travelled to more places than most people can name, attending more music festivals than you’ve heard of, and fresh from a 6 year stretch working in the digital industry in London, Janelle has become GMI’s resident digital marketing guru.
Fernanda – Dribbling is optional
As one of the many ‘poms’ who has decided to make NZ her home, Fernanda has done nothing to dispel the stereotype that the English are into football…by being into football. With a past life involving a Politics degree, web editing, and contract management, Fernanda could no longer resist the urge to correct spelling mistakes in her day job and found her way to the GMI communications team. Employed primarily to bolster the girl quota for the GMI indoor football team, she mostly tackles your online questions and generates news and video content for the website, but only when she’s not missing open goals and passing to the opposition.
