Becoming a Client

We manage investment portfolios of $50,000 and up, for individuals, trusts and charities. There are three steps to setting up an investment portfolio with GMI.

We start with a review of your financial situation

A GMI adviser will review your current financial situation and goals, and provide you with an assessment which will identify risks, opportunities for improvement, and outline how a GMI private portfolio could help you.

In order to do this review, we will need you to supply details of your current investments, your age and investment timeframe, income requirements, and tolerance for volatility. You can start the review process by

•    contacting a GMI adviser by email,
•    by calling us during business hours on 0800 427 384, or
•    you can send us your information right away by using our online form.

There is no charge for this service, and you are under no obligation to proceed beyond the review.

We recommend an investment mandate

The second step is to discuss and agree on an investment mandate. This is simply the percentage of your money that’s invested in shares, cash and fixed interest. This will be specific to you and will reflect your investment timeframe, your requirements for income, your appetite for long-term growth and your tolerance for volatility. Your investment mandate will be tailored to your personal situation.

We will conduct a formal mandate review with you once a year, but you can contact a GMI adviser to discuss your investments at any time.

We sign a contract and set up an account

If you wish to proceed, we will send you a contract to sign. Once we have received the signed contract, we will set you up with secure online account access.  We will arrange transfers of your existing securities if required, and we’ll keep you informed of all activity in your portfolio by sending you detailed monthly reports.

You will not pay any fees until you have signed a contract and transferred money or securities to GMI.
